Ba Ra Mountain, Binh Phuoc – Discover the Majestic "Sacred Mountain" and a Revered Historical Destination at the Gateway to Southern Vietnam
Ba Ra Mountain is located within the Sơn Giang and Thác Mơ wards of Phước Long town, Bình Phước province. Standing at 732m, Ba Ra Mountain is considered the third highest mountain in Southern Vietnam.
The S'Tiêng ethnic group reverently calls this mountain “Bơnom Brah,” which translates to “the Sacred Mountain.”
Legend has it that long ago, the ancestor of the S'Tiêng people had two younger sisters. He built Ba Den Mountain for the elder sister and Ba Ra Mountain for the younger sister to guard the S'Tiêng lands. The S'Tiêng people reverently call this mountain “Bơnom Brah,” meaning “the Sacred Mountain” or “Yang Yumbra, the Mountain God,” who is worshipped on Ba Ra Mountain's peak. The Khmer people, on the other hand, refer to it as “Buddha's Foot Mountain.”

Ba Ra Mountain was considered a strong revolutionary base due to its rugged terrain and elevation of 723m. Our army utilized it as a strategic stronghold during both the resistance wars against the French and the Americans.
From 1925 to 1941, the French colonialists built a large prison at the foot of the mountain, comprising three camps: Camp A for common criminals and bandits; Camp B for female prisoners, political prisoners, and those suspected of being communists but not formally charged; and Camp C for political prisoners.
They employed many brutal methods to torture prisoners, but with an indomitable spirit, the communist soldiers transformed this prison into a site of political struggle against the French colonialists. Ms. Nguyễn Thị Định, a female combatant and a general of the Vietnamese revolution, was also imprisoned here between 1940 and 1941.
Because of its close ties to the resistance efforts of the people of Phước Long in particular, and our nation in general, a stele house and a memorial temple were built on Bằng Lăng Hill to honor the soldiers and compatriots who sacrificed their lives during the resistance here.

When planning a trip to Ba Ra Mountain, the dry season, from November to April of the following year, is the most ideal time to visit.
Mr. Tạ Quốc Thuận, a visitor from Bình Thuận, shared: “Having the opportunity to visit Ba Ra Mountain, I came to light incense at the memorial stele for the ancestors who fell defending our nation's independence. This is both a beautiful scenic spot and a place for future generations like us to remember the glorious history of our people.”
Bình Phước features a hot and humid tropical monsoon climate, clearly divided into two distinct seasons: the dry season and the rainy season. When visiting Ba Ra Mountain, the dry season, from November to April of the following year, is the most suitable time. During this period, the weather is dry, the skies are clear blue, and the natural scenery is poetic, making it safe and perfect for exploring the area.
Ba Ra Mountain is renowned for its beauty, featuring the winding Bé River, Mẹ Waterfall, Mơ Waterfall, and forests with rich and diverse flora, classified as a special-use forest system nationwide.
Ascending 1,767 stone steps from Bằng Lăng Hill, visitors will reach the mountain's summit. The path up the mountain is quite beautiful, enveloped in lush greenery, including bamboo and 'lồ ô' (a type of bamboo). Notably, ancient trees, estimated to be several hundred years old, line both sides of the trail.
From the summit of Ba Ra Mountain, visitors can see the center of Phước Long town, Thác Mơ town, and the vast 12,000-hectare Thác Mơ hydroelectric reservoir. Here, you can immerse yourself in nature's embrace and feel the cool breeze blowing in from Thác Mơ Lake. There is also a very sacred temple dedicated to the Holy Mother Buddha Thiên Hậu and the local deity (Ba Ra Mountain's Lady of the Land).

At Ba Ra Mountain, visitors can use the cable car system, which spans 2,063m and features 32 cabins, divided into 8 groups of 4 cabins each, made with aluminum alloy frames.
Ba Ra Mountain also boasts the deep, wide, and beautiful Dơi Cave (Bat Cave) and Bà Bảy Tuyết Cave, which served as shelters for our soldiers and people during the two resistance wars against the French colonialists and American imperialists. Today, they are ideal tourist attractions, offering cool air, clear blue spring water, and sunlight filtering through rock crevices into the caves, creating a mystical and shimmering ambiance.
